Our Covid-19 Response
Throughout the course of the coronavirus pandemic, our dedicated teams have remained committed to delivering life-saving services to our most vulnerable populations. While we are no strangers to assisting individuals during challenging times, this pandemic has presented unique difficulties, particularly for our border region that grapples with homelessness. As anxiety and concerns have mounted, the demand for our services has grown exponentially. However, we have risen to the occasion, and our agency’s personnel, from administration to frontline staff, have adeptly pivoted and devised innovative approaches to ensure seamless care and support for our program participants.
One of our notable initiatives during this period was the Texas Vaccine Outreach and Education Grant program, which entailed a partnership between Texas A&M Health and the Texas Department of State Health Services Immunization Unit. In this program, ABC harnessed the expertise of Promotores (Community Health Workers) to serve as educators, engaging in conversations aimed at promoting factual, evidence-based information about the COVID-19 vaccine. We took a proactive approach, disseminating vital information on the COVID-19 vaccine directly to the community through boots-on-the-ground outreach efforts. Our mission was to address COVID-19 exposure by promoting vaccine access through education and outreach across various areas in El Paso County.
As a result of our efforts, ABC was able to facilitate a total of 646 direct referrals to nearby free COVID-19 vaccine centers. Additionally, in early 2022, our staff diligently focused on promoting vaccination among children, aligning with the guidelines set forth by the CDC. We targeted schools, playgrounds, and other locations where parents of children were readily accessible, emphasizing the importance of vaccinating the younger population to bolster overall community protection.
Our commitment to serving and protecting our communities remains unwavering, and we will continue to adapt and innovate in the face of challenges to ensure the well-being of those we are privileged to assist.
