NESAC Northeast Substance Abuse Collaborative
The Northeast Substance Abuse Collaborative (NESAC) was initiated by community leaders in 2012 to meet the needs of the population at high-risk for substance abuse and alcohol in El Paso County. In the past, other Coalitions have emerged in El Paso but few have targeted the sector known as “the Triangle” – located in zip code 79904 – and the bordering zip code of 79924, which is also a high-risk area. Many of the members of NESAC had – individually or as part of an organization – attempted to tackle some of the most salient issues associated with substance abuse in the area such as youth arrest, school dropout rates, and others risks.
What we do?
The main program goals are: (1) To strengthen collaboration among public/private non-profit, federal, state, and local agencies as well as the community to prevent and reduce substance use among youth (defined as individual 18 years of age and younger); and (2) To reduce substance use among youth by addressing the factors in a community that increase the risk of substance abuse and promoting the factors that minimize the risk of substance abuse.
